ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT


The Triad Refugee Business Center (TRBC) is a third phase micro-enterprise project implementing based on the experience of the previous Microenterprise for  Refugees in the Triad (MERIT) project. MERIT has been implemented in partnership with the Center for New North Carolinians (CNNC) TRBC is built on the success of TREC and MERIT and designed to continue provide the micro-loan for refugees in addition to providing the technical assistance including business plan preparation. TRBC provides Credit Building loans in addition to business loans to assist eligible clients to build their credit. TRBC project is funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement. The broad objectives of the project are to:

  • Assist refugees in becoming economically self-sufficient,

  • Help refugee communities in developing capital resources, and

  • Assist refugees in developing credit history and/or develop their credit scores.

Microenterprise Development services include business technical assistance or short-term training, and provide credit in the form of micro-loans, an average of $5,000. It also provides Credit Building Loans up to $1,000 to assist eligible clients to help them build their credit. The program is designed in a manner that is culturally and linguistically appropriate for the refugee population.

To equip refugees with the skills they need to become successful entrepreneurs, the program provides financial literacy and Credit Building training and technical assistance in:

  • Business plan development

  • Management

  • Bookkeeping/financial literacy and management

  • Marketing

The program assisting clients in building their credit score by reporting to the credit bureaus through Credit Builders Alliance (CBA). We are a member of CBA and partnering since 2014.
